Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi ignored the extraordinary session of the city council, initiated by the deputies from the “Ukrainian Patriots Association – UKROP” faction concerning the situation at Hrybovytske landfill. The deputies of three parties – UKROP, Ukrainian Galician Party and Svoboda – have managed to add to the agenda of the session the vote of no confidence in the Mayor Sadovyi. But the deputies from the factions of Samopomich and Narodnyy Control voted it down. Andriy Sadovyi did not appear at the session hall. According to the official information, he had a meeting with the representatives of churches.
The session of the city council was interrupted for a moment of silence: it was reported that the body of one of the firefighters trapped under the rubble had been found. It was Yuriy Rudyi from Rava-Ruska.
According to the head of the “Ukrainian Patriots Association” faction Ihor Telishevskyy, at UKROP’s initiative the first issue on the agenda of the next session of Lviv City Council, which will be held on June 9, will be Andriy Sadovyi’s report on Hrybovytske landfill. “The guilty of the tragedy at Hrybovytske landfill must face the consequences of this. We believe that the Mayor will not be able to avoid responsibility,” said Ihor Telishevskyy.
In addition, during the session on May 31 deputies decided to allocate 14.25 million UAH from the reserve fund of the city budget for liquidating the consequences of the accident at Hrybovytske landfill, where the garbage collapse had caused damage to the dam that held back infiltration basins.
Yesterday, near the dam they began to raise a bank in order to strengthen the dam and to open the ways allowing the equipment to reach the scene of the accident. The situation is complicated by heavy rains. The level of infiltration basin has significantly increased.
