The candidate of the “Ukrainian Patriots Association – UKROP” has good chance to win the midterm elections to the Verkhovna Rada in the 27th district in Dnipropetrovsk. This was stated by the lawyer and human rights defender Oksana Tomchuk who had been nominated by the UKROP party for participation in the parliamentary elections that will be held on July 17.

“This is a crucial district that has a positive story for UKROP. Here we simply have no right to lose,” said Oksana Tomchuk.

If she wins, the human rights activist aims to make the Parliament more professional.

“The Verkhovna Rada is the supreme legislative body, and finally it has to be professional. There are plenty of nice and good people, decent citizens of their country. But they have nothing to do with the work they are engaged in, and unfortunately, we feel it. Therefore, I believe that the Parliament should be strengthened, “diluted” by the professionals,” said the lawyer.

Oksana Tomchuk has emphasized that among her first tasks she sees promotion of the bill on amnesty of ATO soldiers, introduced into Parliament by the MP Andriy Denysenko.

“I was co-author of the bill. It provides amnesty of the soldiers of Ukraine’s Armed Forces and volunteer battalions who are convicted of certain articles. And in the situation that we have now there are repressions against our defenders, and this situation is critical,” explained O. Tomchuk.

In addition the human rights activist has stressed that she does not share pessimistic views on Ukraine’s future: “Changes are possible. If you are willing to do it, you can force in. No miracle could happen: as if we fell asleep in one country and then woke up in another one. We need to work hard. Actually, I am willing to do it”.

It is to be recalled, according to the results of local elections in 2015 the representative of UKROP Borys Filatov became the mayor of Dnipropetrovsk.
