The MPs from UKROP support the idea of creating a temporary investigation commission that would check whether the current officials continued doing business using offshore companies after their appointment to the public service. The MP and the member of the presidium of the “Ukrainian Patriots Association-UKROP” political council Oleksandr Dubinin has told it to the journalists in the Parliament.
According to the MP, public officials have made an oath and taken on an obligation to cease any business activity. Therefore the investigation commission has to check if there were any transactions or any financial activity in the companies where among the founders are those people who are working now in the public service. If such facts are revealed and confirmed, they will be transferred to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, said Oleksandr Dubinin.
“I support creation of a temporary investigation commission in order to bring out some officials into the open,” said the MP.
Oleksandr Dubinin has also stressed that those officials whose offshore companies ceased activity after their founders had been appointed to the public service however should indicate these facts in their income declarations. “Otherwise it would be a violation in filing the declaration,” said the MP.
The politician has also said that doing business using offshore companies is quite common in many countries, including the former Soviet Union. Very often these activities are carried on by the officials who hold high positions, but have a small salary. “They are not altruists and kamikazes – they do not work for free. Actually this is kind of fraud and eyewash. All of them are actually working for large kickbacks,” said Oleksandr Dubinin.
Recently it has been reported that the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Oleksandr Danylyuk owns three offshore companies. In addition, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko also turned out to be involved in the so-called Panamagate.
