Appointment of the BPP parliamentary faction leader Yuriy Lutsenko as Prosecutor General would be a disaster for Ukraine. The MP and the member of the presidium of UKROP political council Vitaliy Kupriy said it on the air of “112 Ukraine” TV channel on May 9.
“Yuriy Lutsenko as Prosecutor General is a disaster for Ukraine. In case of his appointment there is no use waiting for any qualitative changes in the prosecution office,” said Vitaliy Kupriy. On the post of interior minister, Yuriy Lutsenko failed the police reform at the time, and subsequently he has also failed to fulfill his promises to reform the GPO together with the former Deputy Prosecutor General Davit Sakvarelidze, recalls the MP.
In addition, according to Vitaliy Kupriy, the GPO cannot be headed by a person who has pleaded guilty in the Ukrainian court and has gone to prison. “This is a person who was sentenced by the Ukrainian court, legally or illegally, but he has admitted his guilt and then was granted amnesty… a person has really done a spell in prison,” said the deputy.
According to Vitaliy Kupriy Yuriy Lutsenko’s candidacy cannot get enough votes in the parliament, so the GPO will remain under control of ex-Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin through his associated Deputy Attorneys Yuriy Sevruk and Yuriy Stolyarchuk. The MP suggests that the President realizes this situation and is knowingly playing the card with the candidate Yuriy Lutsenko in order to show to our Western partners the desire to reform the GPO, though actually any changes in the system could not happen.
