The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine requires the Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin submitting to the parliament the request on depriving the MP Igor Kononenko of his parliamentary immunity within 15 days. The relevant parliamentary inquiry to the GPU, signed by the MP and the member of UKROP political council Vitaliy Kupriy and the MPs from the Radical party Oleg Lyashko and Oleg Kupriyenko was read out today by the First Deputy Speaker Andriy Parubiy from the presidium of the Parliament.
The document, initiated by the MPs from the inter-faction union UKROP and the Radical party of Oleg Lyashko, says that it is not sufficient to add to the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations the statements of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius on the crimes committed by the MP and the First Deputy Chairman of the parliamentary faction “Petro Poroshenko Bloc Solidarity” Igor Kononenko. “Without depriving the main defendant in the case – the MP Igor Kononenko – of his parliamentary immunity, there cannot be any effective investigation and it will be impossible to gather the necessary evidence of his guilt,” explained the MP Vitaliy Kupriy in his inquiry. He has also added that now without sanction of the Verkhovna Rada there can be no search operations concerning Mr. Kononenko, as well as no searches of his premises. If the requirements are not met, the MPs urge that they will demand the Prosecutor General’s resignation.
“If this requirement is not met, the MPs will appeal to the international and foreign financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund with a request to make Victor Shokin’s dismissal from the post of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine a condition for providing financial aid to Ukraine,” says Vitaliy Kupriy in the document.
It is to be recalled, on February 3, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius stated about criminal offense committed by the MP and the First Deputy Chairman of the parliamentary faction “Petro Poroshenko Bloc Solidarity” Igor Kononenko. The Minister said that Igor Kononenko put pressure on him, abused his power and blocked the work of the Ministry.
