The statements made by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on investigating corruption allegations against his business partner and the MP from the BPP Igor Kononenko, and his allegedly putting pressure on the Minister of Economy Aivaras Abromavicius, will not result in the objective investigation and punishment of the guilty. The MP and the member of the presidium of UKROP political council Vitaliy Kupriy said it on February 4 on the air of “1+1” TV channel during the program “Right to Rule”.
“We have got Kononenko’s statements to the NABU, as well as the statements of the President who stress that this case will be investigated. But I already know the result: nothing will be proved,” said Vitaliy Kupriy. According to him, the first question that arises is the absence of the Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin’s request to deprive Igor Kononeko of his parliamentary immunity, that could give the possibility to carry out the necessary investigative operations, including surveillance or wiretapping, and as a result to bring the case to court.
The version of Igor Kononenko’s impunity may be also proved by the fact that there is no criminal proceeding against him for money laundering through offshore company Intraco Management LTD, although the information about his illegal activities has been given by the former head of the Security Service Valentyn Nalyvaichenko. Vitaliy Kupriy has reminded that he had personally appealed to the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Artem Sytnyk and the Anti-corruption Prosecutor Nazar Holodnytskiy with a statement on Igor Kononenko’s using offshore, but they refused to submit this information to the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. The courts, the MP tried to appeal to against the inaction of the officials close to the President, were on their side, said Vitaliy Kupriy.
The politician has also mentioned that the MP from UKROP together with their colleagues from the Radical party have prepared a parliamentary request to the Prosecutor General on his submission for withdrawing Igor Kononeko’s parliamentary immunity, that will be announced in the Verkhovna Rada on Friday.
It is to be recalled, on February 3, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius accused Igor Kononenko of blocking the work of the Ministry and lobbying “his” people to the key governmental positions. In this regard Aivaras Abromavicius stated about his resignation.
