Consideration of the appeal submitted by Hennady Korban’s lawyers against the decision on their client’s arrest has been lasting for two months and has long ago become a political farce. This was stated during the hearing at Kyiv Court of Appeal by the member of the presidium of UKROP political council Hennady Korban. In particular, he considers that taking into account all the requests submitted for the judges’ consideration, there is no use to hold this hearing, as in 23 days the term of his detention will expire.

“It is already the second month the judges have been considering the case of my pretrial restriction in form of detention. Even if we start consideration on the merits, we will not end it by February 25,” said the politician in his speech.

He called on the judges not to be dishonoured and to consider the case basing only on the law. “Your Honour, I understand that the political opportunists from power, who have organized this shameful demonstration trial, took you into this case that is hopeless from legal, factual and moral point of view,” said Hennady Korban. He has added that the trial of him already resembles the process that goes on in Donetsk of Rostov region. “The only difference is that there our enemy and aggressor is judging another patriot – Nadiya Savchenko. And here there is an internal enemy, a political opportunist who tries to sue me,” addressed Hennady Korban to the judges.

According to the member of UKROP political council, he is convinced that the judges are under pressure and they are forced to break the law and handle this case. But he called on the servants of Themis to resist because the whole society needs their just decision.

“I know, Your Honour, that you are threatened, blackmailed, told nonsense that I am a thief. But believe me, now you are the face of the Ukrainian justice. The whole society needs to be shown an example of basic values for which we are fighting, being at war, the values people died for on the Maidan. Basic values mean protection and justice,” said Hennady Korban. “Respect yourself, your children and Ukrainian society,” he added at the end of his speech, met with applause of those present in the courtroom.
