Commenting on the prosecution’s motion on summoning the doctors of Amosov Institute to appear before court as witnesses, the member of the presidium of UKROP political council Hennady Korban said that the consideration of the case was deliberately delayed in order to continue his unlawful detention. He has also stressed that the imprisonment harms his health.
“They are deliberately delaying the case, while every day spent behind bars harms my health and injures morally me and my minor children, and my disabled parents ... As well as the whole society that is witnessing this total travesty of justice and prosecution which is happening in our country,” said Hennady Korban in the courtroom. He has asked the judge Masenko to stop this outrage and to start finally consideration of the case on the merits.
“From January 5 to February 2 we are play-acting with the requests, but cannot start consideration on the merits,” stresses the politician and adds that the society has understood that this case is politically motivated. “The prosecutors have been set a task, maybe, as well as you, your honour, to delay the case as long as possible so that I would be held in custody. And to put pressure on me,” addressed Hennady Korban to the people present in the courtroom.
The member of the presidium of UKROP political council has reminded the judges that our country continues reforms, especially in the judiciary. So there is no point to execute blindly “the order” in his case, and the judges had better follow the letter of the law in order not to lose their self-esteem. “Yes, the reform is not perfect. I realize that many people are kept on the hook, including you. But I want you to learn to respect yourselves,” said the politician.
It is to be recalled, during the hearing the panel of judges consisting of Denys Masenko, Victor Hlynianyy and Valeriy Lashevych have considered the arguments of the parties and decided to satisfy the prosecutors’ motion on summoning the deputy chief doctors of Amosov Institute Oleksandr Berehoviy and Konstantin Rudenko and the doctor Irina Shvets to appear before court as witnesses.
The judges have also satisfied the request of Hennady Korban’s lawyers to subpoena the doctors of Kyiv Centre for emergency medical care and disaster medicine Biloshapka and Sydorchuk, who delivered medical care to the politician at Dniprovsk District Court, and the doctors of the Medical Centre “Family Medicine Clinic” Lesnychuk and Kikhtenko, who carried out medical examination of Hennady Korban in Dnipropetrovsk and supervised his health condition during his house arrest.
It should be noted that the lawyers’ request must be executed together with the prosecutor’s one. So the defence lawyers insist that they will not delay consideration of the case on the merits.
