Court of Appeal of Kyiv continues hearing of the complaint submitted by the defence against the decision of the infamous judge of Dniprovsk District Court of Kyiv Mykola Chaus on keeping the member of the presidium of UKROP political council Hennady Korban in custody. The beginning of the court session was announced by the presiding judge Denys Masenko.
Despite the fact that the politician has been under arrest for over a month, the hearing on the merits has not started yet, while according to the law, appeals are to be considered as soon as possible. At the beginning of the hearing prosecutors filed a request to summon the deputy chief doctors of Amosov Institute Oleksandr Berehoviy and Konstantin Rudenko and the doctor Irina Shvets to appear before court. It is said to be necessary for clarifying some significant facts about the suspect’s health condition.
It is to be recalled, the panel of judges consisting of Denys Masenko, Victor Hlynianyy and Valeriy Lashevych have repeatedly postponed consideration of the appeal because of the alleged lack of proceeding materials, the need to deliver original documents and plans to equip the courtroom with appropriate means for detaining suspects according to the requirements of the European Convention on Human Rights. In their turn, the politician’s defence lawyers have repeatedly stated that in this way the court is deliberately delaying proceedings.
Now Hennady Korban is inside a glass structure, which replaces the cage. At the court hearing there are a lot of journalists, activists of UKROP and MPs Andriy Denysenko, Valentyn Didych, Oleksandr Dubinin, Vitaliy Kupriy and Taras Batenko. People present at the courtroom who have come to support the politician hold the posters saying “UKROP – with Korban!”, “Freedom to political prisoners!”, “Friends cannot be left in trouble!”
