Poltava Regional Council appealed to the Parliament and the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko with a request to stop political repressions and release all imprisoned patriots, including UKROP leader Hennady Korban. This statement was made on January 29 by Poltava Regional Council and supported by 44 of 67 of local councilors present in the hall.

“This government verbally condemns Russian aggression for political repression, but in fact cynically implements repressions within the country. This practice destroys the credibility of Ukraine in the world, people's trust in government, the state and the law enforcement system,” goes the appeal.

In addition, Poltava local councilors declared their adherence to the initiative of their colleagues in the Parliament on dismissal of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin and asked President Poroshenko bring to justice the police officers and judges who by their actions abused the authority of the Ukrainian state. Serhiy Soloviy, initiator of the appeal and head of UKROP faction in Poltava Regional Council said that the decision was supported by representatives of all parties of the Council. Even some councilors from Petro Poroshenko Bloc voted for the appeal despite the fact that some of their colleagues tried to prevent its bringing to the agenda.

“The fact of support for this appeal by Poltava Regional Council suggests a radical change in attitudes in our society,” Serhiy Soloviy said.
