Changes to the regulations of the Verkhovna Rada on the procedure for amending the Constitution of Ukraine will enable authorities to put to the vote the amendment to the Basic Law, particularly in the matter of granting special status of Donbas, unlimited number of times. Member of interfactional union UKROP MP Taras Batenko told it to journalists commenting on the adoption of the bill by the Verkhovna Rada on January 28. The politician stressed that these changes violate the current Constitution, so he voted against it.

“This is an unprecedented violation of the Constitution, which made the current coalition. In this way opens the way for these violations when to change anything for the sake of political situation,” said the MP.

Taras Batenko stressed that the authorities again demonstrated to push forward the decision to grant special status of Donbas at whatever the cost. Currently, there is not enough vote, but the new regulations will make it possible to vote on the issue until it is adopted. “This is part of a creeping coup, even in times of Yanukovych MPs  did not take such liberty,” said the deputy and added that this is "an erroneous provision" introduced to Parliament by a group of deputies from Petro Poroshenko Bloc, so do not expect the Constitutional Court to bring the issue to vote unlimited number of times.

“This bill allows a vote to put the issue the special status of Donbas almost every week to still achieve its adoption,” said Olexandr Dubinin, UKROP MP. He added that "Presidential Administration and, apparently, the President himself the promotion of the special status of Donbas.” The MP noted that he also did not support the bill.

He noted that the Verkhovna Rada amended the regulations, expanding part 8 of Article 149 of the norm, according to which, “if a bill to amend the Constitution was preliminary approved by the Parliament and was not considered at the next regular session after prior approval, such a bill shall be considered by the Parliament at the next regular session.” 229 MPs voted for draft law 3812.
