Today at the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe the MP and the member of UKROP political council Vitaliy Kupriy and his colleague from the Radical party of Oleg Lyashko Victor Vovk held a presentation on “Unreformed Prosecutor General’s Office and political repressions in Ukraine,” reports UNIAN.

In his presentation the member of UKROP has stressed that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine “still remains the same Soviet-style repression agency that prosecute people who do not agree with the authorities”. As a clear evidence of this fact the MP has demonstrated in PACE the video from “Korban’s case”.

According to the politician, in order to improve the situation urgent reforms and not only their imitation are needed. “We should immediately carry out reforms – during the last two years, we have only been talking about it, but doing little or nothing,” said Vitaliy Kupriy and added that with this presentation the MPs wanted to “help Ukraine and defend it against the aggressor.”

The MP Victor Vovk added that “unfortunately, Ukraine is again witnessing the violation of human rights and the rule of law, and intentions to destroy parliamentary system”. “We are also facing the challenge of reforming the law enforcement and the start of political pressure in our country,” said the politician in the European Parliament.

According to Vitaliy Kupriy, he is going to have a meeting with the newly elected PACE President Pedro Agramunt that will be devoted to a more rapid integration of Ukraine into the European Union. “The meeting with PACE President will be devoted to Ukraine’s approaching the European community by carrying out reforms and defending against the aggressor. And as one of the main directions I see the reform of judiciary,” said the MP.

Speaking about the upcoming meeting with PACE President, Vitaliy Kupriy has expressed an opinion that meeting with the opposition party “is a warning sign on the way chosen for Ukraine by the authorities”. “They want to hear another opinion,” said the member of UKROP. Besides, he added that the representatives of PACE intend to send a letter “on their concern and to talk about Korban’s case at their meetings”. He has reminded that the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks also promised to discuss this issue on a high level during his visit to Donbas.
