Ukraine should make agrarian legislation comply with the European Union standards as soon as possible. This was stated by the MP from UKROP Valentyn Didych on the air of the parliamentary TV channel “Rada”.

“Ukraine will not be able to move towards the EU without the implementation of European legislation. Delay leads to significant economic losses, particularly in the agrarian sector,” said the parliamentarian.

The UKROP member reminded that complying domestic legislation with the norms of European law is envisaged by the EU Association Agreement. In particular, Ukraine should change the outdated rules of regulation in the organic products market.

To this end, on the basis of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian Policy and Land Relations, a bill No. 5448-d “On the basic principles and requirements for organic production, trafficking and labeling of organic products” was drafted, and Valentyn Didych was one of its co-authors.

The document regulates the requirements for the production, labeling and trafficking of organic products, as well as establishes transparent and understandable rules for its certification.

“The assessment of the quality of organic products should start from the field. The appropriate labeling should only be given to products that have been grown without сrop-protecting agents. It is permissible to use exclusively organic fertilizers with obligatory testing for the content of harmful substances,” said the MP.

Moreover, the state should provide conditions for the development of small farms. According to Valentyn Didych, farmers are interested in creating small processing facilities under conditions of cooperation. This will stop the extinction of villages due to creation of new jobs.

“The agrarians want to have their own processing and we should give them such an opportunity. Ukraine is an agrarian and industrial country with an enormous potential that needs to be fulfilled,” stressed Valentyn Didych.
