The Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on National Security and Defense has completely failed the preparation of the Law “On National Security of Ukraine”. Parliament adopted a live document. This was stated by the chairman of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Fund, head of Kyiv city organization of UKROP Bohdan Yaremenko in the program “Right to Rule” on the air of “1+1” TV channel.

“Our system is still a soviet one. This law tries to combine the new terminology with a very old, backward system,” stressed Bohdan Yaremenko.

According to the UKROP member, the authorities still feel the winners, as the law provides for the secrecy of 10% of the military budget: “This is a state defense order. And who is the weapons’ baron – Mr. Pashinsky (Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Defense Serhiy Pashinsky – Ed.),” said the representative of UKROP.

Bohdan Yaremenko has noted that the Law “On National Security of Ukraine” does not comply with the recommendations of the international partners, in particular, specialists from NATO. For example, according to the document, the Ministry of Defense should be headed by a civilian. However, it still has a function of commanding the troops, which is not typical for the Alliance. President Poroshenko also left the right to military rule, which also contradicts the NATO standards.

“Our president now has the same powers as Winston Churchill during the war. The difference is that Churchill was answerable to the king, his party and parliament, and our president is not answerable to anyone,” added the representative of the “Ukrainian Association of Patriots”.
