The authorities want to save the money of buyers of elite foreign cars at the expense of ordinary Ukrainians. This was stated during a speech from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada by the head of UKROP, MP Taras Batenko.
This is about the bills No. 8487 “On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine regarding the Taxation of Excise Duty on Motor Vehicles” and No. 8488 “On Amendments to the Customs Code of Ukraine and Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine concerning the Importation of Vehicles into the Customs Territory of Ukraine”, which propose another scheme of customs clearance of foreign cars. The documents have been recently registered in the parliament by the representatives of the ruling factions.
“We see another attempt of the authorities to humiliate ordinary Ukrainians with such bills. Actually the opportunity to buy an affordable car will be taken away from citizens,” said Taras Batenko.
According to the MP, it seems that in the eyes of the current authorities, all the residents of Ukraine are rich people. The fact is that bills will save thousands euros while buying elite cars. For example, buyers of Mercedes S-Class can save on excise duty up to seven thousand euros. These funds are planned to be compensated by ordinary Ukrainians, since the rates of customs clearance for budget cars will amount up to 100-200% of their value.
“In fact, the state wants to pull out of pocket of a future Ukrainian car owner a bigger sum than he or she will pay for the car itself,” said the UKROP member.
In addition, the authors of the bills propose not to prohibit the import of cars at reduced rates from Russia. Thus, the parliament can allow buying almost new and elite cars from a country that has been in war with us for the fifth year.
“This is another step towards the bloody trade, which the authorities are not even going to stop,” said Taras Batenko.
The MP has stressed that the representatives of UKROP will register in the Verkhovna Rada alternative bills that will allow buying affordable cars for every Ukrainian.
