On June 11, mothers and wives of the Ukrainian prisoners of war met with the Member of the European Parliament Rebecca Harms and German politician Thilo Sarrazin.
Before the Summit of the Normandy Four foreign ministers the representatives of the Ukrainian delegation drew attention of the Europeans to the problem of liberating the Ukrainian captives who were illegally detained in the occupied districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The trip to Germany was organized with the support of the chairman of the UKROP faction in Kryvyi Rih City Council, curator of Kryvbas battalion and the head of ATO Veterans’ Council of the “Ukrainian Association of Patriots” Mykola Kolesnyk.
“For four years we have been trying to bring home our sons, brothers and husbands. We are knocking on every door, making this problem public and we are not going to stop,” said the mother of the missing soldier Olena Sugak.
In addition, the relatives of prisoners held a protest action “Free Ukrainian Captives” with the demand to liberate the Ukrainian military. The protest took place near the villa Borsig, where the participants of the Normandy Four Ministerial Summit had a meeting.
The action was organized by the representatives of the All-Ukrainian Union of Mothers and Relatives of ATO participants “Berehynya” and the NGO “Kryvbas Battalion of National Defense”. The activists were joined by the representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora, Ichkerians and Russian opposition.
“We joined the action because we fully support our Ukrainian counterparts. The Kremlin’s prisoners and those who are captured by militants must be liberated from the occupied territories and returned to their native land,” said the representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora.
On June 12, the relatives of the prisoners of war will hold a press conference for the representatives of the German media at Ukraine’s Embassy.
